It’s time to fall in love with our next adoptable! Born June 5, Acorn came to us from a remote community in northern Manitoba. It appears he was hit by a vehicle and dragged, but luckily he only sustained a small fracture which healed with lots of rest. Acorn fits a lot of personality into his little body and is ready to cozy up with his new family!

First things first: Acorn is a very smart pup! Most of his troublemaking tendencies are simply the growing pains of being a puppy and you can’t blame a guy for being curious when so many of his experiences are brand new! Acorn is well on his way to mastering the basic commands. He is extremely treat motivated which, combined with his high intellect, will make continued training a breeze. For the most part, Acorn responds beautifully to corrections or redirections, though like any mouthy teenager trying to test the boundaries, he sometimes barks in defiance. He’s deep in his teething phase so his adoptive family should have proper chews on hand to discourage him from latching his little chompers onto things he shouldn’t (i.e, fingers, toes, cords, etc.). With continued training, Acorn is guaranteed to grow into a very well-mannered young man!

Since he’s just a baby, Acorn’s interactions with other dogs have been limited, though if he had it his way he’d love to play a game of chase with another pup! Acorn would make a great second dog for any family looking to expand their canine roster, but we know he’d also thrive as an only child so long as he receives adequate human attention. Because he is young and bean-filled, Acorn prefers to be regularly engaged in an activity. He’s always looking to play and does well on his own, but if given the option, he’d much rather play with a human! Acorn gets a real kick of out meeting new people and is learning not to jump up when saying hello. He hasn’t been kid-tested yet, but we have no doubt that Acorn would be an excellent family dog and the perfect bestie to grow up alongside!

Acorn is currently living in the city, and though he’d be fine living in a condo, his heart is set on a home with a big grassy yard where he can run. His present exercise routine includes three walks per day, 20-30 mins each, which he loves. He has some work to do re: leash skills – he is easily distracted by his surroundings and tends to forget his leash etiquette if something more exciting comes along. This is par for the course with a puppy and simply an area that his adoptive family will need to put some energy! These walks are enough to tucker this growing boy right out, leading to a solid crate nap once back home. Acorn loves his crate, but doesn’t love the part where he’s left alone unless it coincides with naptime and he’s too tired to protest. His foster has experimented with leaving Acorn alone in a safe, gated space and his whines lasted only a minute before he settled. Overnight, Acorn sleeps soundly, only waking if he needs a midnight potty break! Speaking of potty breaks, Acorn is nearly potty trained: he never pees in his crate and knows to alert his foster by standing at the door and pawing.

Acorn is microchipped and has received his first round of puppy shots. His adoption fee will include his second round of puppy shots and neuter at six months.

Despite his rough start, Acorn is sweet and enthusiastic and ready to charm his new family! Fall is the perfect time to cozy up with a new pal, and Acorn hopes that he’s the one you’ll pick!
