GOOD WITH HUMANS (ADULTS AND KIDS) AND DOGS

  • Much like the leading star of the comic series, our latest adoptable is a real character! Archie is a one-year-old Corgi who came to MUTTS as a mill discard. This little-legged cutie pie has grown so much since joining his foster and now that his medical needs are under control, he’s ready for his new family to give him the red-carpet welcome!

As you may have seen in a recent post, Archie has been diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy, but he wants you to know that it hasn’t slowed him down one bit … mostly because he’s already a pretty lazy dog! Though Archie’s endurance has increased (he can now go for 40 minute walks!), he likes to take his time and enjoy the little things, like sniffing the grass. He’s pretty good on the leash, albeit a little stubborn (he has been known to sit down or throw the occasional tantrum when he’s tired of walking), but he heels well and keeps pace most of the time. Back home, Archie has developed a post-walk tradition of lying down, belly up, waiting for his tummy scratches – this is his version of the after-walk treat! Once sufficiently exercised, Archie likes to spend the rest of the day napping or chewing on his toys, and enjoying a few indoor rounds of tug o’ war!

Archie is being fostered in an apartment, and though he’s quite content with the space, and also fine with the elevator and unknown hallway noises, he may like a little more space to accommodate his zoomies and games of fetch! He’s still working on stairs – going up is fine, but going down is much more daunting and his foster usually carries him. Archie loves being carried: he is pretty much a fluffy baby who wants as much affection as he can get! Archie prefers to nap as close as possible to his foster and will wake up just to snuggle in even more. His love of a good cuddle doesn’t mean he’s a Velcro dog, though. If his foster is moving around the apartment, Archie is fine to relax and mind his own beeswax or, better yet, take a nap!

Though an initially shy guy, Archie is now quick to warm up to new acquaintances, whether two- or four-legged! It takes Archie a few interactions with the same dogs to become comfortable, but once they enter his circle of trust, he is quite happy and playful. His foster has even arranged some pack walks with other Corgis in the building, which Archie loved! When meeting humans, Archie is very warm and polite and happily accepts any affection on offer!

Archie is potty trained and crate trained. He loves snuggling up in his crate throughout the day and sleeps all night without issue! Archie is also microchipped, neutered and up to date with his vaccines. As mentioned in a recent update, he’s had two seizures since his rescue and is taking Keppra. He will need to stay on this medication for the foreseeable future.

We know that the right family is waiting for Archie, and he can’t wait to become the Archie to your Betty (or Veronica!)!
