Next up, our buddy Bob! Like his brother Barker, Bob was abandoned outside of @doggoprojectmexico with his mom and littermates, hungry and malnourished. He arrived in Canada last month, and though he was very nervous of most things, he’s starting to understand his new environment and showing a little more bravery each day!
When Bob first arrived, it’s safe to say he was very timid and afraid of most things, but thanks to his wonderfully patient fosters, his confidence has been steadily growing! Initially, Bob was resource guarding his foster mom and did nip at his foster dad when he got too close. His fosters resolved this by tethering Bob to his foster dad and having him feed Bob his meals. Luckily, Bob is one smart cookie and quickly picked up lots of good behaviours and basic commands (with the help of a few treats, of course!). He would much prefer to be in the company of his people, and though he seems anxious when they leave, he is quiet when left on his own and tolerates his crate well. Other than the initial disappointment of his fosters heading to the door, Bob has not shown any signs of separation anxiety. In fact, he’s recently started going into his crate on his own every morning when his fosters put on their shoes!
Bob is a naturally curious dog with a desire to investigate his surroundings on his own terms. He began exploring the second level of his foster home, where he discovered the cat’s food … and now he loves sneaking up there in hopes of having a nibble! When interacting with the cat, Bob is curious and will approach calmly, but quickly retreats with any sign of defense. Given his respectful attitude towards the cat, he’d do well in a home with a feline. Bob is also being fostered with a seven-year-old boy. At first Bob was unsure of the typical kid antics (fast movements, loud noises, singing, dancing, etc.) and would seek refuge. He was pretty quick to adjust and his hesitations eventually turned into excited tail wags when he would see his foster brother! That said, recently his foster brother was being too rambunctious near Bob’s bed, and Bob nipped at him (he didn’t break any skin). At this time, Bob may be too anxious to be around young children but would likely thrive around older kids. Bob is a very playful dog who favours humans, socks and tennis balls. He’s also happy to entertain himself with a bully stick and other items that he hoards (see his “quirk” below!).
On the leash, Bob is improving on the daily. He walks calmly in environments that are quiet and familiar, and always loves the chance for an off-leash run (in a secure area) – our boy is FAST! Bob has a tough time meeting other dogs on walks. When he spots another dog, he will pull away, tail between his legs, or will stop in his tracks until the other dog passes. Bob did live with other dogs while at the shelter, so it may just be a matter of slow, proper introductions. Same goes with strangers: Bob is wary of new people, but does appreciate meeting them on neutral ground (i.e. outside) – he has a tendency to bark at new folks who enter the house. When this happens, his fosters ignore him until he calms down and is able to say hello in a polite way!
Bob is potty trained, crate trained, microchipped, neutered and up to date with his vaccines. He is currently being treated for Giardia.
It’s time for this sweet boy to find the furever family of his dreams! Though he requires some patience, Bob promises to shower you with endless licks and kisses and be the very best companion he can be!
