GOOD WITH HUMANS (ADULTS AND KIDS), DOGS AND CATS

CHEESE.

  • It ain’t easy being cheesy, but this sweet girl doesn’t mind! Cheese is the next adoptable pup from our group of northern rescues. Born around April 12, Cheese is a Husky x that came from a litter of 11 pups who were orphaned and found in a dumpster after their mom was killed (likely hit by a car). Though she’s a shy gal, she’s learning that everyone loves cheese so she’s not worried about finding her family!

Cheese is the kind of pup who takes things day by day! She approaches nearly everything tentatively – people, other dogs, new spaces – but her curiosity eventually overrides her nerves. Cheese is being fostered with another dog (MUTTS alumni Poe, who was one of the Lola 8 pups!). She was afraid of Poe on day one, but by day two, she was ready to play, and things have not slowed down since! Same goes for meeting new humans: she’ll try to hide, but with time, she opens up and becomes her playful silly self. Once she gets over her initial fear of new people and animals, Cheese really blossoms! With her fosters, Cheese has no problem showing off her curious side. She wants to be involved in all of her fosters’ activities and will either lay on their feet and watch, or poke her little nose into the mix!

Besides lots of playtime with Poe, Cheese loves her toys. She’ll happy chew them, run around with them, or chase them, and she’ll never turn down a game of tug! Cheese is still little so her exercise is consists of multiple short walks per day paired with a few chances to run around. Her leash skills are mood-dependent: if she’s tired or nervous, she’ll cling to her foster and eventually beg to be picked up (which her fosters secretly love, since she is the biggest snuggle bug around!), and if she’s feeling a little more confident, she’ll zig zag or pull on the leash. Cheese is clearly showing classic sled dog signs, so this will be an area that her adoptive family will want to focus! As she grows up, her Husky energy will likely be on full display, so a home with a backyard or proximity to a dog park will be essential!

In true puppy style, Cheese is still working on her potty training. She’s getting there, but she regularly has accidents inside the house. She hasn’t had an accident in her crate for a while, and is usually good to hang in there on her own for about two hours (if during the day) before needing a pee break. Potty training will certainly top the list of priorities for her adoptive family! As for her crate, Cheese loves it! She sleeps soundly at night, 10pm to 7am, with a bathroom break around 4am. During the day, she’ll use her crate for naps and is quite content to head in and relax.

Cheese is microchipped and has received her first round of puppy series shots. Her adoption fee will include her spay at six months and her remaining puppy shots. She is currently being treated for Cystoisospora and Giardia – all associated costs will be covered by MUTTS. If you’re ready to pay the Cheese tax, then you’ve found the right pup – apply to adopt this little cutie today!
