GOOD WITH HUMANS (ADULTS), DOGS AND CATS

  • Next up is our brown-eyed girl, Cotton! Cotton is a two-year-old mutt from a community in northern Manitoba who was surrendered by her owner: they had several dogs, and since Cotton was going into heat, her owners did not want to risk another litter of puppies. Cotton has found a wonderful spot to land in Toronto and is working hard to build her confidence in the big city!

Cotton is a total cutie pie and it’s hard for the crowds not to notice! Though she’s not always one for attention, she recently attended an event at her foster’s office and was a total charmer. Often when encountering strangers, Cotton ignores them and would rather keep her distance. She tends to be wary of strangers on walks and has, on occasion, actively pulled away. Given the right setting and some patience, Cotton eventually warms up and can’t help but show off her good manners! At home, she’s always friendly to visitors. Once she opens up, she’s an affectionate girl who enjoys head scratches and giving little licks!

Now that Cotton is more comfortable in her new space, her curiosity has started to peak through! She loves to lie in the backyard sun and enjoy time to herself. Cotton’s foster home has a dog (the only pup she has been exposed to off-leash while with her fosters) with whom she loves to play. Cotton’s play style is more submissive, though she’s not afraid of getting rough. When she’s not wrestling with her foster bro, Cotton loves chewing on toys and treats! Since she loves her backyard time, Cotton would do very well in a home with a yard. She does not like being tied up outside, so a fenced-in yard would definitely be her preference!

Cotton is a very easy going girl! She is great on the leash and though she always notices squirrels, she doesn’t pull or chase. Cotton is calm but cautious around dogs she passes on her walks. In certain settings, she can become overwhelmed and will stick close to her foster. Small- to medium-sized dogs are more her jam; she remains calm and sniffs politely. Cotton is very sensitive to city noises (cars, trains, etc.) and strangers, so she may be more comfortable in a quieter neighbourhood. Back home, she’s done very well when left alone. She does not like being in her crate when the door is locked and has revolted a few times – a work in progress!

Cotton is potty trained, spayed, microchipped and up to date with her vaccines. She is currently being treated for CPV (canine parovirus); all associated costs will be covered by MUTTS.

Though Cotton’s owner made the tough decision to surrender her to rescue, she remains a sweet pup with an open heart! If you’re looking for a cutie pie with big brown eyes, Cotton is the girl for you!
