Oh my gawd, another Corgi is ready to find her family! Janice is a six-year-old Merle Corgi who came to MUTTS as a mill discard where she was used for breeding. As such, she missed out on years of learning the basics but that hasn’t stopped her from lapping up all that home life has to offer! Like this current heat wave, Janice is ready to melt your heart and can’t wait to meet her people!
Like her Friends namesake, our girl Janice is all about that main character energy! She loves being the star of the show and would thrive with a family who is able to give her the attention she craves. This means she’d be best as the only dog in the house, especially since she doesn’t like to share the spotlight. Janice is being fostered with another dog and though she’s not vindictive in her search for attention, she prefers to have all eyes on her! Part of her plan to be your #1 is also make sure she has exclusive access to pets and belly rubs. This gal is obsessed with affection and often flops on her fosters’ feet to make sure they pay the pet tax! Janice also likes to follow her fosters around, always on a hot standby for more attention, but will head to one of her nap spots if they’re busy.
Having lived in a puppy mill for most of her life, Janice is still new to a lot of the basics. She will come when called but doesn’t know any proper commands. She’s not very treat motivated (which is fine as she needs to lose a bit of weight) but responds really well to praise! Janice loves her walks and goes on four 30-40 minute walks per day. She moves fast – places to go, people to see! – and at first, this frantic energy led to hacking and overheating. Her foster has focused on calming Janice’s nervous system during walks and using praise to stop her from pulling on the leash and she’s improved dramatically! There’s still work to do but with continued training, she’ll only get better. Janice’s adoptive family will need to be an active one as regular walks are an important part of her exercise regime! At home, she likes to play (and would likely play even more if she were the only dog – she can be a little protective of her toys) and would benefit from some stronger chew toys as another way to burn the beans and keep her from chewing stuff that doesn’t belong to her!
Given her love of attention, it’s no surprise that Janice is a big fan of all humans! She’s friendly and curious and jumps up on her back legs to say hello. She’s very good at reading human energy and will adjust accordingly. Janice was previously fostered with a few youngsters and was great with them. She’s friendly and gentle anytime she meets kids while on a walk. Janice would do well in a home with kids 4+, as she doesn’t understand her own size and strength! As for meeting other dogs, it’s been hit or miss. Janice has a high prey drive for small animals and is not great at reading dog body language and can be pushy. Though encountering other dogs in the city is unavoidable, interactions have been kept brief (she’s also been in heat so it’s partly a safety concern) and Janice has been fine!
Janice is fully potty trained but has had instances of marking in the home (this was a problem during the first week but has stopped). She is crate trained and though she doesn’t choose to hang in her crate during the day, she is crated at night and when left alone and does so with minimal protest! Janice is microchipped and has an upcoming appointment for her remaining boosters and spay.
This sweet and affection-loving lady is ready to take centre stage in the life of her new family!
