  • Hey y’all, it’s time for Miss Lainey Wilson to find her family! Lainey is a three-year-old Havenese mix who came to MUTTS as a mill discard. Upon arrival, Lainey had a few medical needs to address but despite these discomforts, Lainey has remained a sweet gal with a heart like truck. Let’s get Miss Lainey home!

Though she’s a shy gal upon first meeting, Lainey is a family lady through and through. She prefers that new introductions happen on her terms but once she feels safe, it’s not long before her lovebug side is on full display! Now that she’s comfortable with her fosters, Lainey loves nothing more than being by their side and requesting endless pets. She’s a big fan of cuddling on the couch and even tries to tuck her fosters in by nudging their blanket with her nose! Lainey is happiest around her people and would do very well with a family whose schedule allows them to be home often. She hasn’t spent time with kids but given that she’s sensitive to loud noises and sudden movements, she’d do best with older, respectful children.

Lainey still has some learning to do by way of obedience, but nothing that a smart pup like her can’t handle! Though she hasn’t yet tackled any of the basics (sit, stay, come, etc.), Lainey has been working on her leash skills. She goes on two 15-20 minute walks per day and absolutely loves being outside! She can be a little stubborn and stop in one spot, and since she does not like being tugged on the leash, her fosters redirect her attention and she carries on! She’s not shy about exploring new places as long as it’s away from any loud, unfamiliar sounds. Lainey loves being outside and is very playful in the grass. Despite her tiny, condo-perfect size, Lainey would be happiest in a home with a fenced-in yard so she can continue enjoying the great outdoors!

When it comes to other dogs, Lainey prefers slow introductions. She is always gentle but instinctively anxious. She is being fostered with another dog and though it’s taken Lainey time to warm up, she’s always gentle and polite! Lainey still has a lot of “dogging” to learn, so if her adoptive family had another pup, it would be a great opportunity for Lainey to continue her lessons! While with her fosters, Lainey has not been cat tested, but we imagine a cat might be also be a perfect pal for our tiny gal!

Lainey is microchipped, spayed and up to date with her vaccines. She is 100% potty trained and loves her crate. Her fosters leave it open for her when she’s alone, and via a camera, they’ve witnessed Lainey come out and stretch when no one is looking, and play on her own, trying to catch her tail!

On July 31, Lainey underwent eye surgery (medial canthoplasty/medial blepharoplasty) to correct Marked Bilateral Epiphora, which included correcting the rolling in of the lower eyelid near the medial canthus, a caruncle excision which removed the cilia and deepened the collection area for tears to flow into the lacrimal system, the removal of the medial cantha ligament, and the removal of a triangular section of tissue in the medical canthal area (where the upper and lower eyelids meet). The non-medical translation? The surgery was quite extensive and Lainey does not have a lower duct in one of her eyes. She may need tetracycline occasionally in the future, but most importantly, our girl is finally pain-free. Her teeth were also cleaned during surgery and we’re happy to report that no extractions were needed!

Life has been a real whirlwind for Lainey Wilson but thanks to our wonderful rescue community, this little miss can finally exhale. We can’t wait for this sweet little cowgirl to find her forever!
