  • Continuing with our Northern Mutt Series, we have Logan! Logan is a seven or eight month old baby from Nunavut who made his way to us via Manitoba. Possibly part polar bear, this guy was named after Logan from Gilmore Girls in a vote by our loyal MUTTS community. Logan is learning all sorts of new things and working really hard to be the bestest boy that he can be! He’s ready for a family who is committed to helping this big fluff thrive!

TBH, Logan is a little like each of the Gilmore guys – eager to have a good time, like Logan; a little rebellious, like Jess; initially unsure around other dogs, like Dean; and stubborn but willing to go to great lengths for those he loves, like Luke. For Logan, having fun is a top priority and sometimes learning gets in the way. His fosters are working on the basics and day by day he’s getting there! He loves playing with toys and with people, and will almost always instigate playtime with the resident dog Bruno (a MUTTS alumni!). Logan is still learning his boundaries with other dogs, but he’s made great progress - Bruno’s gentle corrections are helping him understand when to take a break. He would benefit from having another dog in the house who can keep showing him the ropes or being the sole dog to soak in all of the attention from his people!

Like Jess, Logan has a bit of a rebellious streak. While he used to strongly dislike his crate, he’s now showing much more patience with it - there still can be some initial hesitancy, but he settles fairly quickly. His fosters have been crating him during meals to create a positive association, and he’s learning that the crate can be a safe, calm space, especially when left alone. Logan still prefers being with his people and may whine or bark shortly after getting in, but his settling time has improved noticeably. With time, consistency, and maybe some puppy classes, this smart boy will keep maturing.

In true Dean fashion, Logan comes on a little strong when meeting other dogs. Unlike Dean, however, it’s not aggressive - he may bark and lunge with excitement, but once introductions are over, he settles quickly and is ready to play. Sometimes his enthusiasm can be overwhelming to other dogs, so continued work on boundaries and leash manners will be important. His foster has been using a clicker and treats to keep him focused during walks, and Logan is now walking nicely with regular eye contact. The next step will be mastering “heel,” and his progress shows he’s ready for it!

And finally, like Luke, meeting new people can go one of two ways: Logan may be immediately friendly, seeking pets and attention, or he may bark a bit before warming up. With those he knows, Logan is loyal, affectionate, and eager to be involved in everything. He’s a puppy with big feelings and sometimes finds it hard to give space, but with guidance and patience, he’s learning how to balance affection with independence.

Logan is microchipped, up to date with vaccines, and neutered. He initially had a few potty accidents in the house (usually when left alone or in his crate), which was likely related to post-neuter medications, but overall he’s doing well and his medical records are clear. Our resident Gilmore Guy is looking for a family ready to help him keep learning the ways of the world! He’s already shown a ton of potential through his quick learning and eagerness. With consistent training, Logan is sure to become the leading man of Stars Hollow!
