It’s time for Penny’s luck to turn! Penny is a four-year-old Yorkie x Poo who came to us with two other housemates as owner surrenders. Though it’s taken some time for Penny to settle into her foster’s home, she’s finally confident enough to show off her shiny personality. Sweet Penny is ready to find her family!
Penny’s transition into foster care was a classic slow burn. Having come from a home where she lived with other dogs, Penny was missing her pals and unsure of her new surroundings. Her foster has worked very hard to build her trust. Penny is a social gal – she loves to be near her humans and is especially fond of curling up with them on the couch. Since she prefers to be with her humans rather than on her own, crate training has been key. Penny doesn’t love the crate but she does tolerate it! She is an anxious girl. Her foster has been dressing Penny in sweaters (she’s very cooperative!) and using a heartbeat stuffy to help ease her anxieties. Though Penny lived with other dogs prior to her surrender to MUTTS, she still isn’t clicking with her fosters’ dog, so a dog-free home would be best for her. Good news for cat owners, though: Penny recently met a cat and was very interested, so we feel she’d do well in a home with a feline!
Penny easily keeps herself entertained, favouring a small squeaky tennis ball and a few stuffed toys. She carries her ball around the house and sometimes throws it for herself! Most of her exercise comes from regular daily walks, plus some backyard playtime. Penny usually walks well on the leash, though walker beware – this girl loves squirrels! Thankfully she’s tiny so it’s not too difficult to refocus her attention. Penny has regularly passed a few dogs on her walks but hasn’t had any official introductions. She’s always excited to see fellow canines, wagging her tail and barking excitedly! Penny also does well when meeting strangers while out and about. She’s curious and sniffy and totally fine to be picked up and snuggled. At home, however, she’s a little more particular about guests. Penny will growl and bark anytime someone new arrives, but warms up with time!
Penny is potty trained. When she first arrived with her fosters, she went through a short phase of peeing in her crate due to anxiety. She’s now past this phase and is accident-free in the house! Penny is microchipped, spayed and up to date with her vaccines. She will require some dental work; all associated costs will be covered by MUTTS.
Despite a rough few months, sweet, lovable Penny is ready to put the past behind her. She knows that the perfect family is out there waiting to find their Lucky Penny!
