  • Introducing our next adoptable, Pinkie! Pinkie is a two-year-old pocket-sized Shepherd mix from a northern community in Nunavut (see her intro post for the full story). Pinkie is equal parts sweet, fun and energetic. After over a year of searching, it’s time for Pinkie to finally meet the family of her dreams!

Pinkie’s transition from rescue to her current foster home has been difficult. Before landing with MUTTS, she was bounced around to several fosters and locations; she’s only just beginning to relax and settle in with her current fosters a month after arriving. Our girl has had a rough start so her ideal forever family must be ready to work with her to resettle into a new home, and to understand that this won’t happen overnight. The great news is that our friends at Beyond the Leash K9 have offered free training to ensure Pinkie is set up for major success! Now, let us tell you a bit about our girl!

Don’t let those tiny legs fool you: Pinkie loves getting outside to walk, play or zoomie in the backyard snow (a true northern dog at heart!). She’d be an excellent fit for an active family, or the ultimate hype-girl for someone who’s pledged to spend more time enjoying the great outdoors in 2026. We think Pinkie would really enjoy a dog sport, like agility or scent work, so a fenced-in outdoor space to set up something fun would make her very happy!

Once she’s had the right amount of exercise, Pinkie loves nothing more than cuddling up with her fosters for some pets and belly rubs! She’s a very loyal girl (classic GS!) who a) loves her humans and b) is not one to miss an opportunity for a treat. Pinkie is very, very smart (and treat motivated!), so short daily training sessions are essential to her happiness and obedience progression. She’s mastered most of the basics and has moved on to some higher-level skills, such as threshold training (aka learning not to move through a doorway without permission). Pinkie is also working on her leash skills! Her fosters are using a prong collar which has resulted in some great heel work (her leash skills will need more work if wearing a flat collar). The prong has also helped dramatically with Pinkie’s leash reactivity: she’s eager to get at small critters and other dogs, but these reactions have become much smaller and more manageable with the prong collar!

Pinkie has been fostered with a few different dogs in the past, but it wasn’t always a great match. If she were to join a family with another dog, slow introductions and experienced handlers would be a must. When it comes to children, Pinkie’s play style can be a little rough for young kiddos, but we can see her as a great pal to children 12+. She’s still learning to greet people politely and will jump when given the chance, but she can’t help but want to show her affection for everyone she meets! At home, she loves to socialize with her fosters and show off her sweet side. Pinkie really enjoys playing with her toys, but much prefers that her humans join in the fun. She will destroy soft toys VERY fast, so tough toys only for this girl!

Pinkie is potty trained and crate trained. She loves her crate at night (sleeps quietly from 11pm to 7:30am). During the daytime, she whines for 10-15 minutes before settling. Heads up: in true northern dog fashion, Pinkie’s barks and whines can be loud, so she’s likely not the best fit for any condo dwellers. Her fosters often give her a Kong with some small Kibble to help Pinkie pass the crate time. Pinkie is spayed, microchipped and up to date with her vaccines. She recently received a cytopoint injection for environmental allergies, and is an overall very healthy gal!

We know that 2026 is going to be Pinkie’s year, so let’s help her kick it off in the best way possible!
