Calling all Corgi lovers – Riptide is up for adoption! This all-black Corgi X with the stubby legs and cute butt hails from northern Manitoba where he was found as a stray with multiple wounds from a dog attack. The wonderful folks @manitobaanimalalliance nursed him back to health and he made his way south to join the MUTTS crew. In true puppy fashion, Riptide is always looking for a good time and hopes to find a family who’ll bring the fun!
Though he has reason to fear other dogs, Riptide is, surprisingly, very enthusiastic about making new doggo friends! He is neutral toward other dogs, meaning not submissive or dominant, and knows how to make proper introductions (aka polite butt sniffing). He’s already learning to pick up on social cues and has received lots of guidance from the resident dogs (also MUTTS alumni!). As for cats, Riptide used to cry when they would pass by, but a little exposure therapy has done him good. Now he’s happy to play gently with the dog-friendly cat and is learning to respect boundaries.
When it comes to humans, Riptide’s motto is “no strangers, only friends!” He looooves meeting new people and will 100% kiss you on the first date. His goal is to get attention so he’ll submit for belly rubs and jump up for pets. He’s met one kid while with his fosters and was on his best behaviour, sitting nicely and licking her hand. Riptide would have no issues blending into a family with kids! That said, he is still a puppy, so the adults will need to watch out for mouthiness and jumping.
When it comes to the perfect weekend, Riptide doesn’t ask for much: belly rubs, treats, fetch, treats, herding ball, treats, a few pets, a treat. He’s hoping you can sense the theme here… Riptide is very playful and enjoys just about any game involving the ball! Chew toys are also a fave, which work wonders to help with his teething. His basic obedience is coming along nicely (he likes the treat part the most) and something his adoptive family will need to continue. He receives at least one training session per day, along with one walk and lots of backyard time. When on the leash, Riptide is all over the place and his fosters have tripped over him more than once. His new family will definitely need to focus on leash training!
Riptide is almost fully potty trained. It can take him a while to do his business outside as he’s easily distracted and he has had a few accidents in the house, but this is to be expected from a puppy. As for the crate, he’s responding to the “kennel” command and enters enthusiastically (mainly because there’s always a treat waiting…). He’s been crated alone for up to six hours and was totally fine. Given that he has major FOMO, Riptide is the perfect candidate for separation anxiety, so we highly recommend that his adoptive family continue with crate training.
Riptide is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and received a clean bill of health during his last vet visit!
This sweet little guy is so, so ready to settle in with his new family!
