GOOD WITH HUMANS (ADULTS & KIDS) AND DOGS

  • The One Where We Meet Adoptable Ross! Ross is just a baby from northern Manitoba, born on May 16 to a semi-feral Husky X mama. Ross, along with his siblings Rachel and Monica, was saved by the @manitobaanimalalliance volunteers who flew them to safety. Ross is a very chill pup who enjoys the simple things: hanging with his people, toys, and making new F.R.I.E.N.D.S! It’s time for Ross to find his forever family!

Though he is a fairly laidback guy, Ross has a hard time containing his excitement when meeting new people. He will jump and sniff in excess, often becoming extra-energetic in the presence of a potential new pal. He has heard something about these behaviours being “bad manners” and he promises to work on this! Ross has been introduced to a few younger kids (four and under) and was a little too excited to hang with them. His fosters put him in a doggy playpen, and Ross eventually calmed down and took a nap. Any potential adopters with kids should be ready to monitor interactions with Ross, especially as he is still a puppy! With time and continued obedience, we see Ross as a great buddy for a family with kids!

True to form, Ross also loves meeting other dogs, both large and small! His interactions have been limited to on-leash only, which has helped him remain respectful of boundaries. Ross would be wonderful as a solo dog or an addition to the pack! His main request is that there is space to run and play. His energy levels are likely too high for a condo, so a home with access to a yard would really tickle his fancy! Since he’s a puppy, his walks have been limited to short strolls, with lots of backyard time and enrichment training to round out his exercise. These requirements will increase as he grows, so we would love to see him paired with an adopter who can provide daily walks and playtime. Ross loves chasing his toys, as well as a good game of tug, so bonus points if his adopter has a good pitching arm!

At home, Ross is big on hanging with his fosters as much as possible! He follows them around while they work in the kitchen or living room, and will sit at their feet during dinner. One of Ross’ favourite pastimes is grabbing his fave toy and joining his fosters on the couch! So far, his desire for close proximity has not turned into separation anxiety – Ross is fine to be left on his own (crated, of course) and has no desire to pass the time by chewing on something he shouldn’t! Ross is pretty keen on following the rules. He has already learned several basic commands (sit, down, stay) and is quickly building his repertoire of skills! As a Husky, Ross has started to experiment with his voice: and barks when he needs a potty break, and before meals to announce his excitement!

Ross is nearly there with his potty training: accidents are happening less frequently (mostly fosters’ fault for not letting him out soon enough!). He is excellent in the crate, happily napping and eating his meals inside. Ross is up to date with his vaccines and microchipped. He is currently being treated for Giardia antigen and Coccidia cysts; all associated costs will be covered by MUTTS. His adoption fee will include his remaining puppy series shots and neuter at six months.

Unlike his TV namesake, we’re pretty confident it won’t take long for Ross to find his forever family! If you’re looking for the perfect F.R.I.E.N.D. to round out your pack, Ross is the guy for you!
