It’s time for this local celebrity to meet her family! Born September 30, 2025, Spud is a black lab x who came to us from a remote community in northern Manitoba where she was found as a stray. If you were lucky enough to catch her television debut, you know that Spud is sweet and cuddly and more than ready to find her family!
Spud is a classic puppy in nearly every way: enthusiastic, cuddly, energetic and eager to make friends! She is the only dog in her foster home so her canine socialization comes from walks and weekend visits to the dog park. Spud likes to put her paws on smaller dogs but handles correction well. Otherwise she’s respectful, tail waggy and playful, and really enjoys the chance to stretch her legs at the park! Since she’s full of those puppy beans, her fosters take her on four walks per day, plus lots of indoor playtime. Her exercise demands may increase as she grows, so along with daily walks, we’d recommend that her adoptive family add daily training sessions to the mix – the perfect way to continue working on basic obedience and provide mental stimulation. Spud has already mastered most of the basic commands so we know she’s ready for some advanced learning!
At home, Spud is a big fan of being near her fosters and becomes concerned when she doesn’t have eyes on all of her foster family members. She loves being involved in every way she can, even hanging in the bathroom during showers! She has easily adapted to their daily schedule and is especially fond of mornings, which always include a long snuggle in bed with her fosters. Spud will use her voice when she’s not receiving as much attention as she’d like, but eventually turns to her toys for entertainment. Thankfully she knows not to chew on the furniture, despite being deep in the puppy teething phase!
Spud is currently being fostered in the city and is still adjusting to the loud sounds of downtown life. With time, we know she’d be just fine as a city gal. Given that she does have a lot of energy, proximity to a dog park or a home with a fenced-in yard would be ideal as Spud loves to run, fetch and zoomie! Speaking of fetch, Spud recently met a few youngsters who engaged in a game with her, and she was on cloud nine! We know she’d be a wonderful pal to any family with children! Spud exercises some caution around delivery drivers and some men, but we expect her to grow out of this with continued exposure.
Spud is nearly potty trained: she understands the concept and signals to go outside to the balcony (where there is fake grass). As for crate training, Spud loves her crate and knows it’s her safe space. She sleeps peacefully overnight, preferring that the door remain unlocked. Spud is microchipped and has had her first round of puppy series shots. Her adoption fee will include her remaining shots and spay at six months.
This little potato is all shined up and ready to make a great first impression with her new family!
