  • It’s time for Tobias to settle into his forever home! This charming gent came to MUTTS as an owner surrender through no fault of his own; he was a very loved companion to his previous owner. Tobias is a special guy who absolutely adores his humans and would thrive in a home with a secure outdoor space that he can explore to his heart’s content! Let’s help Tobias find his perfect family!

Though his medical records tell us he’s 12, Tobias’ energy levels tell a different story! Nothing gets Tobias more excited than the sight of his leash. He still has lots of energy and is able to go on several 15-20 minute walks per day. His walks are kept on the shorter side as Tobias is a challenging walking buddy: he pulls and doesn’t listen well outside, especially when he becomes fixated on sniffing. As such, having free reign of an enclosed outdoor space would be the perfect set-up for Tobias. He can sniff from dusk til dawn and not have to worry about slowing anyone down! This would also be a great way to avoid unplanned encounters with other dogs. Though Tobias has spent time with dogs in the past, he hasn’t recently and is not keen on making any canine friends. Tobias is definitely Team Cat and is always a perfect gentleman when interacting with the resident cat (also a senior!).

Other than a secured backyard, the perfect home for Tobias would include fewer (or no) stairs and lots of time with his humans! Tobias isn’t used to receiving as much exercise as he has been with his fosters so the stairs are a bit tough for him to manage. His hips are in great shape, so no concern there, but the best long-term home would be one with fewer stairs. Ideally for Tobias, his forever home would also allow him to remain as close to his humans as possible. He is quick to attach himself to new people and doesn’t care for too much personal space (no one can pee alone with Tobias is around!). Tobias is a big sweetheart and prefers to be rewarded with affection instead of treats. His dream day would involve time in the yard with his fosters, followed by endless couch cuddles. Tobias is all about those simple pleasures!

Like any good senior dog, Tobias comes fully-loaded with his basic obedience! His recall is on point: he knows his name and comes immediately, likely in hopes of receiving some pets or a hug. Tobias is fully potty trained and despite being new to crate training, he’s loving his new space! His fosters leave the door open and have not needed to utilize the crate when Tobias is left alone. He is very relaxed on his own, opting to lie down and snooze when his fosters need to step out or at night. He does enjoy looking out the window and showing off his big bark when dogs pass by. The only time Tobias is destructive is while playing his favourite game “Destroy a Stuffed Animal,” of which he always follows the main rule: only toys placed in his crate are designated for play!

Tobias is microchipped and up to date with his vaccines. His neuter is scheduled for September 9.

Adopting a senior dog is a very special experience. Our boy Tobias is a seasoned and loyal companion who is ready to spend his golden years in the company of a very, very lucky family!
