GOOD WITH HUMANS (ADULTS AND KIDS), DOGS AND CATS

  • It’s time for our little cloud to find his family! Born March 23, Tofu came to MUTTS as a mill discard. Some of his littermates were born with genetic issues and two were surrendered to rescue. Tofu was born hard of hearing and has been learning sign language! This special guy is looking for an equally-special family!

Tofu is known for taking on any flavour that you cook with, but that’s not the case for our guy – he’s full of personality! Tofu is in his puppy era and embracing every minute. He loves other dogs and enjoys playing with them. The resident dog is older and will snarl to communicate when he doesn’t want to play. Tofu has no issues reading the room and will back off. When meeting off-leash dogs, he approaches and then play-bows, hoping to engage a new friend! With humans, he’s been great meeting both adults and kids alike and he remains curious and polite, but TBH, he’d much rather hang with the doggos. If no one else is willing to hang with him, Tofu can entertain himself. He needs to chew (less destructive, more puppy teething), so as long as he’s got a puppy-appropriate chew toy, Tofu is set!

Since he’s still a puppy, Tofu has lots of energy to burn, but this could also be breed-specific (Samoyeds were bred as sled dogs and are thus a higher-energy breed). Right now, he goes on three walks a day with lots of backyard and play time tacked on. His exercise needs will grow as he does so Tofu is looking for an active family! In preparation, Tofu has been working very hard on his leash skills. If there’s no one else around, Tofu likes to zigzag and sniff, but if he spots another dog, he’ll move straight along! We know Tofu would love a home with a yard and would not suit condo life.

At home, Tofu is a real charmer: he loves to follow his foster around and prefers her company, but is also happy to be in his comfy spots. Tofu loves tummy rubs and pets, and although he doesn’t ask for them yet, he’s a big fan! Basic obedience is shaping up nicely, as well. Because Tofu is likely deaf, his adoptive family will need to adapt their training accordingly. Visual communication is essential (Tofu will startle when approached from behind or at an angle where he can’t see), as is incorporating specific techniques for commands, etc. Tofu has already proven himself as a smart pup with a big desire to learn and we can’t wait to see him reach his full potential!

Tofu is microchipped and has received his first puppy shots. He’s still working on potty training but will use his pee pad or go outside. As for the crate, he’s not a fan. The only time he has any separation anxiety is when he’s crated and he has no issue letting you know how he feels (it’s not nearly as bad if the door is open)! Because Tofu has a head tilt, he is set to receive an x-ray at his next vet appointment to rule out any long-term issues. His adoption fee will include his remaining puppy shots and neuter at six months.

This little ball of personality is eager to meet his new family! He’s got so much growing and impressing to do and he just can’t wait for them to see it!
